Concept 1

We chose to stay with our first concept "Less is More".

Our dress will be simple and hand stitched with blue yarn. The dress will be out of snow-white stretch cotton and will have an a-symmetric silhouette. The dress will have a feeling of a jersey-net and will fit loose on the body.

The back of the dress will have a open back and the front right to the back left will have the slogan "Less is More" in the typeface "Helvetica", which is a clean, sans-serif typeface. The letters will be cut out, and with sheer stretch material under layered.

The hood/scarf will loosely hang over her head and will be in the same material as the dress.

The silhouette is easy and simple, the stitches will be hand made, which also matches to the "Less is More" concept:...Less work...Less/simple font...clean/simple material...clean/less cut[s]...etc.




The whole concept will be presented as less is more, even the background picture will be in a simple elegance, it also will have less distractions, but just white snow.

Sarah and Nina | Blog 6

Concept 1

The typeface that we have chosen for the conservative dress is Arial (12pt). We chose this font because it is traditional and expected. We chose a sans serif to go with the clean look of the dress. Arial is a sophisticated and professional font, which goes along with the concept of our dress. The type will be “This is me.” and will be repeated uniformly to create a striped pattern. The lines will alternate with one and two rows to make different size stripes. The technique we are using is screen printing with contact paper.

Concept 2

We have chosen to hand render the type on this dress. The type will say “THIS IS ME” in all capitals and no punctuation because this dress is liberating and letting the woman express herself freely. The type will be placed randomly and in three different sizes.  The randomness of the type will compliment the asymmetrical silhouette. This dress will be very free formed at the bottom to represent her breaking out of the shell and being free. This dress will be done with the lino block technique.

Cliff and Alex, Penny Test

Melanie asked us to post up a photo from class monday when we did a test on how the pennies looked with our design. I can't wait until an entire dress is covered in pennies! It's going to look so awesome down the runway. :) Comments anyone?

Blog 5: Laurie + Natalya | Concept 2

Concept 2: This dress is based on a girl who is very strong, powerful, a little bit scary, fierce, and confident. It is inspired by bones (bat wings and human bones) and the structure they provide. We like the angles they create and the strength they represent.

Execution: The dress will have two main parts. The actual dress will be made of a flowy material which we want to be a dark deep purple. It will have a slit and a small train. The second piece will be the structural part that comes up around the neck from the waist. This part will be very angular and contain the print with the text. The text will be a pattern created from the word "Vicious". We felt that word described our girl. The structural piece will join the waist of the dress and trail off into the train.

Blog 5: Laurie + Natalya | Concept 1

Concept 1: This dress is based on the idea of a girl who has a lot of issues (which range from emotional issues to being self-conscious about her body.) She has a fragile exterior which is crumbling and she is struggling to keep herself sane.

Execution: The dress will be made up of two main pieces. The under part of the dress will be a jersey fitted dress. This will be white and covered in words (mostly song lyrics) which describe the girl's problems/issues. They will either be handwritten with fabric pens or screen printed. The second part of the dress will be made up of stockings/nylons that have been sewn together to make a form fitting dress. They will be black. We will rip them in certain places exposing the girls issues.
